Are you looking for ready-to-use primary History lesson plans?
At Hoghton Tower we have developed a set of primary teaching resources to assist with primary History teaching in KS1 and KS2:
‘significant historical events, people and places in their own locality’ in KS1 DfE
‘a local history study in KS2’
‘a study over time tracing how several aspects of national history are reflected in the locality (this can go beyond 1066) ‘
‘a study of an aspect of history or a site dating from a period beyond 1066 that is significant in the locality. ‘ DfE
These plans can be used on their own as complete modules or as individual lesson plans to mix in with your existing History planning. The differentiated activities and helpful lesson plans, PowerPoints, activity sheets and information sheets will help the children learn how to question the past to see how it shaped the future.
Hoghton Tower is a fantastic primary Historical resource as the children can question the building, rooms, and artefacts within. Not only that, but they can use the secondary resource of the tower guides to help deepen their knowledge and understanding of the past. Coupled with this the guides will come in and help deliver ‘hot seating’ sessions in schools to help with the delivery of the historical curriculum.
These plans are designed to help with the delivery of History in KS1 and KS2 using Hoghton Tower and its family’s influence as sheriffs of Lancaster, demonstrating how the locality has been influenced and shaped by the people that lived and worked there. Hoghton Tower spans many years and generations and has had a huge impact on the local communty, starting from 1109 AD when the original tower was built.
