We’re always delighted for films crews to share our picturesque, historic house with a wider audience. Over the years we’ve welcomed a wide range of productions, including Peaky Blinders, Casanova, Life on Mars, Cold Blood, Last Tango in Halifax, and Sherlock Holmes.
High on a hill in the heart of Lancashire, Hoghton Tower enjoys amazing views and excellent access. We’re ten minutes from the M6, M61 and M65; Manchester and Liverpool are an hour away. There are five toilets on site as well as one-bed self-catering accommodation to provide a rest area. Our tea room can deliver onsite catering or you can use the great barn as a canteen for offsite catering.
Our imposing building is local sandstone-mill stone grit and includes many eye-catching internal and external features, from stone and marble fire-places to huge original oak wood doors, and wood and marble floors.
Through our iconic turreted gate house lies a rustic cobbled Outer Courtyard, linked to an Inner Courtyard via striking semi-circular steps. The Inner Courtyard is overlooked by the Ornate Ballroom, State Bedroom, King’s Bedchamber and the popular Banqueting Hall lined with Flemish stained windows. Interior decoration ranges from Tudor, Victorian and Edwardian to modern, plus there’s access to underground passageways and desolate cells.
Outside we have three walled gardens and a pavilion field which has previously been used for battle scenes and jousting tournaments.
