A Look Ahead

The next focus will be the restoration of some of our ornate hoppers and downpipes, the continued works of tending to the three walled gardens and then the next big capital project on the horizon will be redeveloping the grade 2 listed coach house.

The work of the Trust is not just limited to the physical preservation of our heritage. Thanks to support from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, we celebrated the story of Kings James 1st of England to Lancashire and the Tower. This involved the recording of oral histories, the development of primary school lesson plans, volunteer archive training, original research and learning sessions as well as funded placement for an MA student from the University of Lancaster.  The desire to find more about our history and wider site has culminated in further investigations into the structure of our well house and a Castle Studies Trust funded archaeological study with volunteer training and engagement to see if we can find the location of our missing keep! We are always looking to deepen our understanding of this intriguing heritage site areas so that we can keep our story alive!
